SUSAI BENJAMIN

ALP CANDIDATE FOR SEVEN HILLS

STATEMENT ON EDUCATION

Education and training is the key to getting a stable job, but

opportunities for young people in Western Sydney are under threat.

The NSW Liberals have cut $1.7 billion from schools and TAFEs, while

Tony Abbott has cut $10 billion from our schools. The Liberals have

increased TAFE fees by up to $5000, forcing students to take out

loans and sacking 1,100 teachers and support staff.

I believe every young person in Western Sydney deserves a great

education. I’m proud of Labor’s $100m TAFE rescue plan to reverse

the Liberals’ fee hikes. Labor will also invest $100 million to replace

all temporary demountable classrooms and libraries with permanent

structures.

Mike Baird is trying to blackmail us into supporting the Liberals’ plan

to sell our electricity network, but we know it will mean more cuts to

schools and TAFE.

With youth unemployment in Western Sydney at 16.8%, we must

stop the Liberals’ cuts to schools and TAFE.
