SUSAI BENJAMIN

ALP CANDIDATE FOR SEVEN HILLS

VETERAN LABOR LUMINARY OPENS SEVEN HILLS CAMPAIGN OFFICE

Monday 2 February 2015

SEVEN HILLS, 3PM: Susai Benjamin, Labor’s candidate for the new State Seat of Seven Hills was delighted to welcome retiring Labor Senator the Hon. John Faulkner as his guest of honour to open the Seven Hills campaign office located at 109 Best Road Seven Hills yesterday.

First elected to the Senate in 1989, Senator Faulkner retires as the ‘Father of the Senate’ after 25 years of public service and standing up for integrity in government, social justice and progressive values.

“I was absolutely delighted to welcome John to Seven Hills,” said Susai. “There is no politician in Australia whose gravitas and record of integrity in Australian public life is greater than John’s and to receive his support and endorsement is deeply humbling.”

In an often funny and self-deprecating speech the morning after the Queensland election, Senator Faulkner outlined the changing nature of Australian voting patterns. He noted that unlike the normal trend in Federal and State politics in Australia where one-term governments have historically been rare, Australian voters now appear willing to immediately dispatch governments that do not listen to the public or fight to meet their needs.

In reference to Susai Benjamin, his party colleague of about 20 years, Senator Faulkner made clear he thought as a local Member Susai would be able to deliver for our community in the areas of education, health and fighting against the sale of public assets.

“This is exactly the sort of person you need representing your community” Faulkner said. “If he doesn’t get the outcome he wants, he never gives up and he’ll fight until he wins” he said.

The event, which included some cheery ribbon cutting and a community BBQ in the carpark out the back, was attended by about 100 of Benjamin’s friends and supporters.

Susai invites the residents of Seven Hills to get in touch with the campaign office on 02 8625 1647 or susai4sevenhills@gmail.com, or to drop in to 109 Best Road Seven Hills.
